Chapter

Killian had been plagued by the same nightmare for a week now.

Over and over again, the paralysis, the bathtub, the indecipherable whispering. All of it, every time he closed his eyes.

He hadn’t slept in days. Because of that, the headaches were worse, the dizziness was worse, and the vomiting was worse. Everything had amplified. And his stomach had gotten bigger. Not by much, but enough that he noticed it. Lorn still said not to worry, so he hasn’t been...yet.

He didn’t tell anyone but his Consorts about his nightmares, ordering them not to say a word to anyone either. If word got out that the heir was losing it, the Kingdom would turn to madness. And he definitely had to keep it from his cousins. They’d do anything to tarnish his name.

Killian wished he knew why he kept having them. And who it was that was whispering. Maybe not even who but what.

A sharp pain shot through his head. He winced, letting out a small whimper. Burying his face in the pillows on the bed, he squeezed the sheets between his fingers, waiting for the pain to pass and hoping it did quickly.

“Killian, what is wrong?” the prince heard Rem’s deep voice question softly. His hand fell on the bare skin of his back gently.

Killian couldn’t answer him for a moment, the pain was too intense. And then just like that, it faded into a dull throb. He breathed a sigh of relief, then twisted his head to look up at him.

“I am okay,” Killian whispered. His voice sounded weak and unconvincing.

Killian heard a growl of frustration. His eyes slid over to Zev where he ran a hand angrily through his hair. His jaw was clenched, and he was baring his teeth viciously.

“I can’t take it anymore! Are we really just going to sit here and act like there isn’t something seriously wrong with him?” Zev fumed.

Caspian sighed, “Zev, we can’t--”

“Look at him! Are we his Consorts or not? How can we just let him suffer? We’re supposed to be his protectors damnit!” Zev interrupted.

Each of his shouts pounded into Killian’s head like daggers. He moaned in pain.

“Keep your voice down,” Rem commanded icily.

Zev was silent but his face twisted into a hideous arrogance that he frequently hid behind. His arms were folded over his chest making his pectorals bulge.

“Zev,” the prince croaked softly. He reached out for him weakly.

Zev immediately went to the prince’s side.

Killian pushed himself up until he was sitting, facing Zev. His palm rested on Zev’s lightly stubbled cheek, and he leaned in closer, sliding his cheek along his jaw, before falling against him. The prince’s face in the crook of his neck.

His arms came around Killian immediately.

“I will be alright, okay? It is just the baby,” Killian told him.

He snorted.

“You know damn well the baby is at no fault.”

“Please, Zev?” Killian begged.

Zev was quiet for a moment before his head tilted back and he stared at the ceiling. Then he brought his face to Killian’s neck, planting small kisses there.
